Travel Tips
Natural beauties and landmarks of the Bohemian Paradise you must see
The Bohemian Paradise, where Hotel Spálov is located, offers a vast number of tourist attractions. You might not know where to start to see them all. We give you tips on those that are closest and that you should definitely see or experience!
Small Hydroelectric Power Plant Spálov
In the immediate vicinity of the hotel is the small hydroelectric power plant Spálov, which is part of the Rieger Trail. The building was constructed in the 1920s in Art Nouveau style and its location represents a perfect harmony of technology with nature. The premises of the power plant can be visited by prior telephone arrangement.
Rieger Trail
The Rieger educational trail will take you through the picturesque nature of the Jizera Valley from Semily to Spálov. One of the most interesting places on the trail is a 77-meter-long suspension gallery located 6 meters above the Jizera River. The trail is approximately 5 kilometers long and along the entire route, you will also find a number of viewpoints and natural phenomena.
Palacký Trail
Just as the Rieger Trail offers a walk around the Jizera River, the Palacký Trail takes you through the Kamenice River Valley. The trail starts at the confluence of the Jizera and Kamenice in Spálov and leads you all the way to Tanvald. Along the way, you can stop at the Bozkov Caves or visit Navarov Castle. The total length is approximately 20 kilometers.
Canoeing and Sports Trip with SUNDISK family
Take a trip from Spálov by canoe on the Jizera River to the nearby Železný Brod. You start at the confluence of the Jizera and Kamenice right at the train stop next to the hotel. The so-called Paraplíčko at the beginning is considered the more challenging part of the route, the rest of the journey is calm. From Spálov, it is also possible to canoe to Malá Skála or even to Dolánky. However, due to their length, these routes are more demanding and are planned for the whole day. You can return by train directly to the hotel.
Via Ferrata Water Gate
If you enjoy outdoor sports and have experienced via ferratas in Austria or Italy, don't miss this place! The first Czech via ferrata is a publicly accessible climbing trail in challenging rocky terrain, secured with a steel cable just as we know it from abroad. The trail leads above the Jizera River Valley, which will beautifully meander below you, and you will just enjoy the beautiful view from above.
Bozkov Dolomite Caves
The Bozkov Dolomite Caves, which have been a national natural monument since 1999, are located near the village of Bozkov and are listed as the largest cave system in northeastern Bohemia. The caves consist of a series of corridors, halls, and unique lakes in flooded parts.
Navarov Castle
The ruins of Navarov Castle, a Czech cultural monument, can be found high above the confluence of the Kamenice River and the Zlatník Stream. Currently, restoration is underway, planned until December 2022.
Church of the Holy Trinity in Bzí
This cultural monument is definitely worth a visit! The Baroque church is located high above the right bank of the Jizera River. It was built between 1692 and 1697 as a replacement for the original wooden structure. From the older building, a bell from 1593 has been preserved, which is now located in the massive tower of the church.
Maloskalsko
The village of Malá Skála, also rightly called the pearl of the Bohemian Paradise, is located in the deep valley of the Jizera River and is a popular starting point for trips throughout the Bohemian Paradise. From here, head to Frýdštejn, Vranov and Pantheon, Suché skály, or Drábovna. At the central parking lot, you will find the Maloskalsko Information Center, where they will surely be happy to advise you.
Kalich / Chléviště
This rock labyrinth with beautiful views of the Jizera Valley is located about 1.5 km from Malá Skála near the village of Besedice. Here you will find rock formations Turtle, Bear, Hippo. During the Counter-Reformation, the rocks were a refuge for persecuted non-Catholics, as reminded by the carved chalice with the year 1634. In the middle of the gorges, you will find a cave with a symbolic prayer room of the Unity of Brethren.
Kozákov
The highest hill in the Bohemian Paradise (744 m above sea level) with a lookout tower has long been sought after as a site for precious stones. Today, it is a popular place for paragliding, a peak destination for cyclists and tourists who look out over the wide region from here.
There are really many options for trips here, we have only mentioned a part of them. If you would like more information, do not hesitate to contact the staff of Hotel Spálov.
